1. 4 Internet Marketing Twitter Don'ts
By Alan King
Twitter is the latest big deal on the Web. Everybody's talking about it. And you can be sure that there are 1,000 wannabe gurus who want to tell you how to use Twitter for Internet marketing.
It's likely that these "gurus" just ripped their advice off from some list. Those lists are easy to find. They don't require any special knowledge. What DOES require a little thought--and a little bit of experience--is knowing how you SHOULDN'T use Twitter for Internet marketing. Here are 4 things you should avoid.
1. Don't Twitter every little event in your life. Why not? For one thing, everybody does it. You're not going to stand out in the crowd if you do what everyone else does. Except maybe, just maybe, everybody wants to hear about how cute your cat is, and how drunk you got on the weekend, and how you just lost two pounds. Think again--nobody cares.
On a slightly less cynical note, you have to realize that if you tweet every little thing in your life, people are going to stop noticing you after a while. People are selfish. That's no crime--it's just the way we're built. If you constantly tweet about yourself, people will stop paying attention pretty darn quick. Save your personal tweets for a group of people that already know you, and are genuinely interested in what you're doing all day.
2. Don't just tweet affiliate links. If you're in the pet niche, tweet about new ASPCA news, or a new brand of organic cat food (that you've got an affiliate link for), or the latest findings in how our favorite furry friends see colors.
These things are interesting to people in the pet niche. Guess what? Plain products aren't. If you just go around tweeting affiliate links to every pet product you can think of, you're not going to make any sales.
Give people a reason to follow you by being interesting. Tweet about that new ASPCA news and that scientific finding, and then tweet about the new product. If you constantly Twitter nothing but product links, people will just take you for a spammer. And that's exactly what you'll be.
With Twitter, as with other forms of marketing, you'll only make money if you provide something people want. And yes, people really do want those new products. They just don't want to be bashed over the head with them.
3. Don't use a product image for your profile picture. Let's put aside for a minute the fact that this is in extremely bad taste. This is actually a step worse than micro-blogging only about new products. It's one thing to post spam. It's another thing to actually BE spam. Please avoid this at all costs. It's a cardinal sin of Internet marketing here just like it is everywhere else.
4. Don't curse. Yes, we're all adults and we can handle four-letter "potty words" without running and telling our mommies. But each micro-blog post you make is going to be only a few words. It's neither classy nor mature to make 10% of those ten words a curse word. Some Internet marketers seem to think this makes them look cool. It doesn't. Don't do it.
Allan King's friend Paul T. Power was a frustrated (and broke) Internet marketer until he sat down and learned how to use -systems- to create passive streams of income. He likes to help others do the same.
You have probably heard the buzz that Twitter is receiving. Many business owners are joining Twitter, but quite a few are not sure how to use Twitter and how to promote their business on Twitter in order to get results.
Lately, I have been hearing from many clients asking me how to use Twitter and how to get results on Twitter. Here are five tips for you to help you get more clients on Twitter:
- Use Twitter To Research Your Target Market. One of the biggest benefits that Twitter provides business owners is the ability to connect with your target market and hear what your target market is talking about.
One of the biggest challenges that business owners face is not knowing what they target market needs. At Twitter you are able to listen to your target market, see what kind of issues your target market is experiencing and what kind of help your target market needs.
Once you have this information, there are many things you can do with it. You can write articles and blog posts with the information that your target market needs. You can create a service based on the information you have received. You can offer a teleseminar on a topic that your target market is interested in.
By just doing your research and understanding what your target market is looking for, you are going to get clients on Twitter!
- Build Your List. I am sure that you know that the bigger your list, the more successful your business is. Use Twitter to build your list by sharing information about your free gift and your newsletter with your followers. Don't promote your newsletter and your free gift all the time, but it's perfectly fine to mention your offers from time to time.
- Build Relationships With People You Meet On Twitter. People buy from people they know, like and trust. Don't just promote yourself all the time. Get to know your contacts and they will get to know you.
For example, on Twitter, spend 80-90% of your twits to help others, share useful content and network. Limit promotion to 10-20% of the time. When you do this, more people will follow you and more people will want to get to know you, which will translate into more subscribers over time.
- Blog And Share Your Blog Posts On Twitter. Sharing your blog posts is another great way to demonstrate your expertise to your target market. And you don't even have to share your posts manually. There are tools that will automatically check your blog and post your blog post to Twitter automatically.
All you need to do is to set it up and your blog posts will be shared with your followers every time you have a new blog post.
- Offer Events And Teleseminars. A great way to invite more people to your list is to offer an event and invite your Twitter contacts to join you for the event.
Just set up a teleseminar on a topic that your target market is interested in and let people on Twitter know about it. You will get more teleseminar attendants that way.
Take action on at least one of these tips today and start using Twitter to build your list, get clients and promote your business!

If you are new to Twitter, or you are not getting much followers, this simple guide is right for you. Your page seems blank, and you don't know where to start, don't panic. First thing you need to do is to find people.
When you are signed in to your Twitter account, go to the search textbox in the upper right hand corner.
Lets say your blog is about iPhone apps. You can type in "iPhone app" in the search box. Then you will find other Tweeters (people on Twitter.com) that are also talking about iPhone apps. Click on their username to get to their Twitter page. When you are on their Twitter page, there is a Follow button right underneath their photo. Now you are following the person, and the person will have a notification in their Followers list that you are following that person. Not everyone will follow you back just because you are following them. Some Tweeters will follow you back regardless whether or not they know you.
If you have been on Twitter for awhile, but not getting many followers, there are a few things that you can do to improve the amount of followers. Are you following some Tweeters who seem to be bots? For example, Tweeters who make posts every 5 minutes about "Make thousands of dollars part-time with no experience necessary. Go to (link)". You need to remove them. Most likely these bots are not following you back because they are not human. When you are following a lot more people than you have people following you, that does not look attractive at all to people who might decide to follow you. For example, you are following 30,000 Tweeters, but only 500 people are following you. It is time for you to remove some of the Tweeters you are following. Go on your Twitter main page, and you should see on the upper right hand corner: Following / Followers / Updates. Click on Following, and now you see bunch of Tweeter users that you are following. The ones that have a "Direct Message" are also following you. The ones that don't have "Direct Message" means they are not following you. The list of people are organized based on most recently added to last. You don't want to remove the recently added people who didn't follow you because you have to give people time. Not everyone checks Twitter often. Down at the bottom is a Next button. Just keep hitting next. You will start to see people that you have added a while back. Start removing the people who have not contributed much to the community, spammers, or didn't follow you back. Don't remove professional bloggers. Even if they don't follow you, they have very good informative posts that you should pay attention to. Learn from them!
Another way to increase your followers is to post useful messages in your main page. Post in the text box that says, "What are you doing?". You should post on there often, but make sure it is informative. When people use the Search, people can find you with keywords that they typed into the search box if your posts have the relevant keywords. If people can learn from your posts, you will definitely see an increase in followers. Do not be a spammer just to advertise a link to your website. Be helpful, and people will thank you.
